The Montega MC 01 was launched by 1999 as a tribute to Brazilian footballer Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima and was called R9 (as in Ronaldo and his legendary number 9 as a football striker).
The watch was designed by the famous Lebanese jewelry designer Marc Chatila, president of the Swiss – Geneva based – Montega company, and is a piece of technical avant-garde with a very sophisticated construction. The 44 mm watch case is made of 40 different elements all assembled by screws, without any soldering.
The 57 Jewels high precision chronograph movement was developed by the renowned Swiss chronograph modules manufacturer Dubois-Dupraz, exclusively for Montega, and it is based on the automatic ETA 2892A2. All the movements of this series of Montega watches are COSC chronometer certified.
The watch was produced in a numbered limited edition of 19999 pieces worldwide.
The white dial has 3 encircled counters (seconds at 3 o’clock, minute at 9 o’clock, hour at 6 with the R9 logo on blue), with luminescent numerals and “skeleton” luminova hands. The watch has a 45 minute counter at 9 o’clock, specific to the world of soccer/football.
The oscillating weight is decorated with Côtes de Genève and enamel etching with Montega armor logo.
The caterpillar style stainless steel bracelet is made from sophisticated designed screwed tubes. A genuine crocodile leather bracelet “fait main” is also available for this watch.
Available for sale are 4 pieces from this limited edition collection, so the numbers engraved on the watch bezel will be different than in the photos.
The watch is not worn, it comes from a private collection and it has no original box or papers. The last photo is showing all the 4 watches available for sale, but this listing refers to a single watch from the lot.
