LONGINES Original Watch Movement Calibre L 688.2 – 27 Jewels – Column Wheel

The Longines calibre L 688.2 automatic movement is based on the automatic chronograph ETA Valgranges A08.231.

The movement has overlapping circular patterns “œil-de-perdrix” finishing, the oscillating weight is decorated with “Cotes de Geneve” stripes and is engraved L 688.2 | Longines . The movement is marked 27 JEWELS | TWENTY-SEVEN | SWISS | A08231.

Valjoux 7753 base  (3-6-9 layout) with a column wheel and an oscillating pinion clutch and with totally revised chronograph and automatic winding parts.
The minute counter is continuous (instead of jumping) at 30 minutes, as well as the hour counter.
The winding rotor is unidirectional and improved (the heavy shaking of the 7750 has been reduced).
Button pressure has improved a lot, and the level of finish is industrial but very good on the visible parts.
The column wheel is obtained by milling and not molded.
The levers are all cut from sheet metal with a good thickness and with a rhodium finish.

The movement works well and is keeping a pretty accurate time. As for any other vintage or used movement, a basic revision is recommended.
